Grand Champions at Long Beach BBQ Festival

Locally-owned and operated BBQ restaurant Q Smokehouse wins Grand Champion – Best Ribs at the Long Beach BBQ Festival this past weekend.
The three-day festival from Friday, Aug. 17 to Sunday, Aug. 19 brought thousands of meat lovers to Rainbow Lagoon to enjoy delicious BBQ. But as every vendor claimed to have the best BBQ, there was no other way to set the record straight than with a rib competition.
The Pitmasters vs. Locals Rib Competition took place at 3:00pm on Saturday, Aug. 18 at the VIP All-You-Can-Eat Rib Village. Actor and comedian Cedric the Entertainer, along with other judges, selected the grand champion based on appearance, tenderness and flavor. In total, 14 vendors competed in the competition including local restaurants Robert Earls and Bludso's Bar & Que.
As a first-time BBQ Festival participant, the Q Smokehouse team was excited their St. Louis Style Ribs won first place.
“Our Pitmaster said he didn’t wake up today to be mediocre,” said owner Kurt Schneiter. “The entire crew didn’t miss a step, as there are no shortcuts to any rib worth eating.”
Luckily for those who were not able attend the festival, Q Smokehouse’s award-winning ribs are available on Wednesdays for $1 each. This is part of their overall philosophy to share great authentic BBQ with the community.
“Success tastes better shared,” Schneiter said. “BBQ is all about sharing great food and having fun.”
